Tour Itinerary
Day | Places | Description |
---|---|---|
Day 1 | Cairns: hanging out by the sea! | You will arrive in Cairns, an original tropical city, early in the morning, surprisingly relaxed. You will be greeted at the airport and then taken to the Aboriginal Cultural Centre. Coffee and initial contacts with all the participants, followed by lunch at Palm Cove, a little resort town on the ocean. Back to Cairns, a welcome briefing and a visit to the town. Just relax! |
Day 2 | Cairns: hanging out by the sea! | Another day spent getting fully over your jet lag. We will take a boat to Green Island. Palm trees, warm sand and snorkeling! |
Day 3 | Malanda (216 km/ 134 miles) | We pick up our bikes. Lunch at the Port Douglas marina, swimming at Mossman Gorge and a visit to the Tablelands. We will spend the night in Malanda amidst the tropical gardens. The tour gets off to a great start! |
Day 4 | Ingham (249 km/155 miles) | This morning, we head back down to the coast. Fish and chips at Mission Beach. The night will be spent in Ingham at an art deco hotel dating from 1923. |
Day 5 | Airlie Beach (383 km/238 miles) | You are on vacation… If you hadn’t noticed, Airlie Beach will serve as a reminder! The little town around the harbor is one of the best-known vacation spots in the country and is the homeport of many a modern Robinson Crusoe! |
Day 6 | Rosslyn Bay (520 km/323 miles) | The Scenic Road bypasses Rockhampton and takes us to Emu Park. A little hotel facing the Marina. One last dip in the sea, because tomorrow we will head into the bush! |
Day 7 | Myella (208 km/129 miles) | Wonderful little roads. A stop at Mount Morgan station. A flash from the past! We then come to Myella, an Australian-style ranch where you can ride a motorbike or a horse. We recommend the horse, with kangaroos hopping all around you as you visit the bush. We will spend the evening around the campfire. How many stars can you count? |
Day 8 | Free day in Myella | Another day at Myella farm. Nothing luxurious – not at all – just authenticity, real life. The cabins and toilets are simple but clean, and so much more welcoming and romantic than the big luxury hotels. Enjoy the flavor of a meal cooked over the open fire and a drink at sunset on a nearby hill. And, if you want, we can take our bikes out to visit a few spots that only the locals know. |
Day 9 | Clermont (503 km/313 miles) | The Bush Experience! There is next to nothing in Clermont – except a pub that serves steaks as big as a continent, cold beer and a pool table! You will live three days of solitude. Three days to realize just how big the world really is! All of a sudden, on the right, a cowboy is rounding up his cattle. A quick stop to take a memorable picture. The cowboy comes over to us. "Where are you from? We are from France, Switzerland, Belgium... Damn, long way from home!" |
Day 10 | Charters Towers (366 km/227 miles) | We will go looking for precious nuggets with a professional gold prospector. Can you find any? On the road to Charters Towers, you will come across mobs of wild emus, squadrons of parakeets, and perhaps the odd iguana! |
Day 11 | Undara National Park (374 km/232 miles) | Undara, land of volcanoes! First, we will head into the bush for a drink on a lava hill at sunset. Then, after nightfall, we will watch the spectacular sight of thousands of bats flying out of a cave. Evening around the campfire and a romantic night in fixed-up old railway cars. |
Day 12 | Cairns (285 km/177 miles) | The day starts with a visit to the Lava Tubes, a huge network of tunnels formed by lava flows. Spectacular! Back to square one, but not without one last trip across the subtropical regions of the Queensland high plateaus. Take a refreshing dip in Lake Eacham. |
Day 13 | Cairns, the last day | Our last day on the Australian continent. Cairns has a fun atmosphere and the party is everywhere! Optionally, you can go on a boat outing to the Great Barrier Reef. You can also go shopping! Koala teddy bears, didgeridoos and boomerangs for the children... A good-bye party! |
Day 14 | Return | Bye bye! See you soon on another West Forever guided motorcycle tour! |
