Run to Sturgis - Tour description

There are two places in the world where every biker should go at least once in their lifetime: Daytona Beach and Sturgis. These two events are about two different spirit to them. Daytona is all about chrome and flashiness by the sea. Sturgis is more about the “biker's way of life” in the natural setting of the Black Hills. The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is one of the biggest event in the world for Harley Davidson® enthusiats, in 2015 more than one million bikers and fans attended this motorcycle rally. Over the years, this tour has evolved into one of our agency’s showcase trips. It is very similar to our classic, the “Wild Wild West”, but it focuses on the Black Hills Motorcycle Rally, more commonly known as Sturgis Bike Week. The run starts in Salt Lake City, Utah, crosses Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone and Rocky Mountain National Park. We will take advantage of our three full days in Sturgis to take part in the motorcycle meeting, but also to visit the parks in the area: the Badlands, Mont Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Custer Park and its thousands of bison, not to mention two fabulous roads, the Iron Mountain Road and Needles Highway. We will also stop over in Cody, Buffalo Bill’s hometown, and we will go to a rodeo. We will spend the night in Deadwood, a little cowboy town where Calamity Jane is buried and which is just 12 miles from Sturgis, where we will enjoy the party to the fullest. The Run to Sturgis motorcycle tour offered by West Forever allow you to discover some of the most beautifull nationals in the US while riding winding open roads and of course to attend to one of the biggest event possible for a Harley fan.

... Because motorbikes have a soul, too!

Tour Itinerary

DayPlacesDescription
Day 1 Salt Lake City, Utah Salt Lake City, named after the Great Salt Lake, is the Vatican of the Mormons. Tour Briefing with your guide, meet'n'greet & Welcome Dinner (optional)
Day 2 Vernal (243 km / 151 mi) This morning we pickup our bikes, leave American Fork behind and ride past the many ski resorts on curvy winding roads. This is your first taste of what is to come.
Day 3 Grand Lake (435 km / 270 mi) Now we are in country sides full of wildlife, we visit Dinosaurland NP and finish up with some great lakeside rides.
Tonight we stay in Grand Lake only a couple of miles from the entrance to Rocky Mountain NP.
Day 4 Cheyenne (218 km / 135 mi) We enter Rocky Mountain NP, keep your cameras handy, there are kodak moments around each bend as we climb to 12,183 feet (3,713m) before we descend into the ski resort of Estes Park for lunch.
We go North and stop in Cheyenne for the night.
Day 5 Deadwood (Sturgis)
487 km / 302 mi)
By now you will be part of a larger group, individuals and friends all riding towards a common goal, Sturgis.
On our way we will swing in to see the famous Fort Laramie.
Day 6 Deadwood (Sturgis) Free Day!! Motorcycles are everywhere. We will discover this part of America and take part in the Bike Week festivities.
Day 7 Deadwood (Sturgis) Free Day!!
Day 8 Deadwood (Sturgis) Free Day!!
Day 9 Buffalo (358 km / 222 mi) Today we will swing into the Devils Tower National Park (made famous by 'Close Encounters of the Third kind'). It is an easy day, we probably need one after the Sturgis revelry.
Day 10 Cody (292 km / 181 mi) A very short ride today, but on purpose, as Cody is home of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center & the famous Firearms Museum, and you will need to spend some time here, it is HUGE. That night we usually go to the Rodeo on the outskirts of town, good entertainment and something Cody is famous for.
Day 11 West Yellowstone (209 km / 130 mi) Now we are in for the BIG WOW FACTOR!
We ride into Yellowstone National Park through the Eastern Gate and you are free to ride the roads in the park, as long as you land at our hotel in West Yellowstone that evening.
(The mileage does not include the rides in the National Park)
Day 12 Jackson Hole (202 km / 125 mi) You have a chance to visit the Bear & Wolf Habitat before you ride back into Yellowstone, and today you will ride to Old Faithful and through some of the bussiest hot spring areas of the park, in 2010 we saw moose, elk, lots of bison and a black bear plus various smaller wildlife.
As we ride out the Southern Exit we enter the Grand Tetons National Park, and a mountain range that will take your breath away.
We ride South until we arrive at Jackson Hole, the 'Aspen of Wyoming' where the saying goes 'The Millionaires got kicked out by the Billionaires'. You know when Sotheby's have a real estate office in town that you need a lot of zero's on your checques to pay for your home.
We will have our farewell dinner tonight, usually at the "Million Dollar Cowboy" Bar..
(The mileage does not include the rides in the National Park)
Day 13 Salt Lake City (498 km / 309 mi) OK, last stretch, a nice ride back into American Fork where we return our bikes, shuttle back to our Salt Lake City hotel and have a few beers and talk about the tour we just had.
Day 14 Salt Lake City (Departure) That's it, tours over... You are free to stay, fly home or carry on on your adventures! See you soon on another West Forever guided motorcycle tour!
